Foundation Guidelines

The Buell Foundation’s funding is directed primarily at women and girls with a particular emphasis on programs aimed at:

~  creating an awareness of social responsibility
~  promoting civic participation
~  leadership development
~  activism training

Our funding is mostly confined to the San Francisco Bay region. We fund only 501(c)(3) organizations. In general, we do not support direct service programs unless they have a training/leadership development component.

As a rule, we do not fund the following:

~  capital campaigns
~  international programs
~  health services
~  drug or alcohol rehabilitation
~  film or video projects

Due to limited resources and staffing, we are no longer accepting unsolicited proposals. You may send a two-page letter of inquiry that describes your program’s objectives and funding needs. We will contact you if a formal proposal is needed to help us evaluate your program.
